The tagging feature can apply a customer or order tag that represents survey question responses that a customer has provided. A very useful feature to push survey question responses into Shopify and other connected systems.
Tagging adds an extra layer of information that can then be pushed into 3rd party Order Management, CRM or Email Marketing systems to provide powerful email flows or customer segmentation for retargeting.
Order and customer tags are visible when viewing customers or orders within the Shopify Admin area without needing to cross-reference them within the Grapevine Surveys app.
Customer and Order tags can be set on a per question basis. If your survey contains multiple questions, you can choose which of these questions should apply tags to the customer or order record.
Please Note:
Shopify order and customer tags can only be applied if the survey is associated with an existing Shopify order or customer. Please see our article on making your surveys anonymous or personally identifiable.
How to enable the tagging feature
To activate customer and/or order tagging, begin editing your survey in the Survey Editor and select a question from the left hand pane.
Still in the left hand pane, scroll down to the bottom of the question, and you will see the Tagging options:
Tag orders
When checked, a response to this survey question will be applied as a tag on the associated Shopify order.
Tag customers
When checked, a response to this survey question will be applied as a tag on the associated Shopify customer record.
Tag prefixes
Checking either of these will reveal a further tagging setting to apply a tag prefix:
A tag prefix is a predefined string of text that will appear in front of the tag. For example, you might set a prefix of Answer, therefore the Grapevine survey tags might look like this:
Answer: Facebook
Answer: Instagram
This is how the tag would look on the Order or Customer in Shopify:
A tag prefix is optional. Leave the prefix field blank if you would prefer not to set a prefix.
Please Note:
Shopify Order tags are limited to 40 characters and Shopify Customer tags are limited to 255 characters.
If your prefix + survey response exceed those limits, the tag will be shortened before being applied.
