Please Note:
This article is only relevant to Merchants who are on our GrapevineEXTRA plan and have used the OrderlyEmails Shopify app to customise their Shopify notifications.
To use the GrapevineEXTRA Survey Reminder feature, a small snippet of code needs to be added to the default Shipping Confirmation notification within Shopify.
We know that a large percentage of Merchants customise the default Shopify notifications using the OrderlyEmails app, therefore it made perfect sense for us to partner with Bjorn Forsberg of FORSBERG+two who develops and supports the OrderlyEmails app.
What does OrderlyEmails do?
OrderlyEmails is a design tool that helps Merchants to customise the default customer notification emails that are sent out by Shopify when certain actions are taken on your store, for example, the order confirmation email, the customer account welcome email and the shipping confirmation email.
OrderlyEmails does not send any emails itself, but instead upgrades the plain default email notifications with more stylised, professional and effective designs.
The intuitive designer picks up on the existing styles used within your Shopify theme and will allow you to design your emails with ease. When ready, you can copy the HTML and liquid code that the design tool generates and replace the existing code within your selected Shopify notification.
Simple yet effective!
How does OrderlyEmails work with Grapevine survey reminders?
OrderlyEmails has a number of great features and integrations which can turn default Shopify notification emails into engaging marketing campaigns. One of these integrations is our very own Grapevine Survey widget which can be added as a section into the shipping confirmation notification email.
Merchants can customise the Grapevine Survey widget within OrderlyEmails by customising the wording and location of the widget within the notification shipping confirmation template.
Merchants that have already used the OrderlyEmails app to generate their shipping confirmation template can also revisit OrderlyEmails to add in the Grapevine Survey widget and regenerate the code to drop in to their notification template.
How do I set this up?
Step 1. Adding the Grapevine survey widget to your template
The first step is to open the OrderlyEmails app and click on the Customize button within the theme that you wish to use for your notification templates:
Once in the theme editor, select the Shipping confirmation option from the dropdown selector in the page header.
Once the Shipping confirmation template has loaded, switch to the Sections view and scroll the left hand side of the window down until you see the Add section option at the bottom of the list. Click on the Add section option:
The left hand pane will refresh and under the Shipping Confirmation options, you will see an option for Grapevine survey. Click on the Grapevine survey section:
The Grapevine survey widget will then appear in the right hand preview pane (highlighted briefly in light blue). You will also see a purple Add button against the Grapevine survey section in the left hand pane. Click on the Add button to add the Grapevine survey widget to your template ready for customising.
Step 2. Customising the widget
Adding the Grapevine survey widget to your template will open up the widget editor in the left hand pane of the OrderlyEmails app. The following fields can be customised:
- Heading
- Heading Size
- Text
- Button text
Heading - The heading will need to grab the attention of the customer, we suggest using your survey question as the header, but you can adapt it to see what works.
Heading Size - Use a predefined heading size that works in relation to the other elements in your email template. It needs to stand out, but it also needs to fit in well with the other elements of your email.
Text - The text in this area should explain why you'd like your customer to take your short survey.
Button text - The text that appears on the button.
Any changes that you make to the default Grapevine survey widget will automatically be saved in the OrderlyEmails app.
Step 3. Repositioning the widget
If you'd like to give your Grapevine survey widget more prominence within your Shipping confirmation email, then the OrderlyEmails designer allows you to reposition the sections very easily.
Go back to the Sections view within the left hand pane of the OrderlyEmails app and simply drag the Grapevine survey section to the desired position within your email.
Step 4. Generating the template code in OrderlyEmails
Now that you have customised the Shipping confirmation email to include a Grapevine survey reminder, you will need to follow the steps provided within the OrderlyEmails app to purchase your templates. If you have already purchased the templates and are just adding in the Grapevine survey widget, then you will just need to re-generate the updated template code.
The OrderlyEmails Designer generates a block of code that will need to be copied and then pasted into the your Shipping Confirmation notification template editor within your Shopify store. The OrderlyEmails app provides all of the instructions you'll need to generate the template code. Once you have copied the code, proceed onto the next step of this guide.
Step 5. Adding your new Shipping confirmation template to Shopify
Please Note:
We highly recommend that you take a backup of your existing Shipping confirmation template before proceeding with the next step. To find out how to backup your email notification template, please read the following advice in this article: Step 1. Backup your existing shipping confirmation notification template
Within your Shopify Admin > Settings area, select Notifications and then scroll down until you find the Shipping section. Open the Shipping confirmation notification template.
Replace the code within the Email body (HTML) section of the template with the code that you have copied from the OrderEmails app:
Hit the Save button and that's it! Your updated Shipping confirmation email with Grapevine survey widget is ready to be sent to the next customer whose order has shipped.
How does a customer see the survey?
If a customer has not already submitted the Grapevine survey widget for their order, then the Shipping confirmation email that they receive will contain the widget asking for them to take your survey.
The link within the notification email is linked uniquely to that customers order. Clicking on the link will take them directly to the Grapevine survey landing page which is hosted on your site, where they can complete the survey.
Read more about the Grapevine survey landing page to find out how it works and how to customise the wording and styling.
That's it!
